What’s in the name? Terra Sulis Research is based in the West Country of England near the city of Bath, famous for its hot springs and known in Roman times as Aquae Sulis – the “Waters of Sulis”. In antiquity Sulis was the local Celtic deity of the thermal springs which were developed by the Romans into a baths complex and which in modern times became the City of Bath. The hot springs and modern spa remain an important part of the local economy and a unique feature of the English landscape. Terra Sulis Research focuses on the terrestrial environment local to Bath but also further afield.
